The most intriguing thing about southern Oregon’s 30 or so golf courses is that they run the entire gamet of a golfer’s skill set. Are you a beginner interested in playing a public course to test your newly honed abilities? Got it. Are you a weekend warrior who has played for a number of years and wants to challenge yourself with a tougher-than-average course? Got it. Or, do you want to play on one of the world’s premier “Scottish style” golf courses? Yep, got that too. You will be amazed and delighted once you begin researching your southern Oregon golfing options. There truly is something for everyone who loves this sport.

Bandon Dunes Golf Course

This course is the world-renown Bandon Dunes golf course located outside the southern Oregon town of Bandon. This “Scottish-style” golf course is attracting folks from all over the world to play its challenging courses (yes, there are multiple courses here to play). Players also enjoy views of the beautiful Oregon coast which is located just off several of the playing areas.

But besides world-class golfing options like Bandon Dunes, there are plenty of fun, low-key golf courses located throughout the southern Oregon area. These courses really speak to every level of player and each golf course makes it easy to secure tee-times without planning months in advance.

When one of our valued Whitewater Warehouse customers raves about excellent customer service we take notice. Molly O’Hearn who is in a league of her own (in many ways but we are referring to customer service here!) says that southern Oregon’s Bandon Dunes Golf Course in Bandon, Oregon is world-class in offering top-notch customer service. “I have never felt so welcomed by a resort before. They are warm, they welcome me by name, the accommodations are cozy and top quality. And then there’s the golf. This course runs along the Oregon coast so the scenery is breath taking. The course itself is really unique–in the spirit of the golf courses in Scotland. And, when I play there, I meet golfers from all over the world. I think that says it all. An amazing golf course, excellent facilities, and some of the best customer service I have ever experienced…no wonder I love coming back year after year.”

We visited Bandon Dunes recently and experienced the quality of the resort for ourselves. By the number of vehicles in the parking lot and the diverse geographic locations of their license plates, you know you are somewhere special.  We took photos but they don’t really do the resort justice. Check out Bandon Dune’s website for more details (and better photos!)

We seem to be attracting more and more folks from all over the world who choose to Rogue River raft and kayak with us and then scoot over the mountain to travel the Oregon coast and play at Bandon Dunes. After visiting this incredible golfers’ retreat, we can see why. It is truly spectacular. But don’t take our word for it. Check out the kudos this course received from GolfersGuide.com!

“If you have been toying with the idea of taking a Bandon Dunes southern Oregon golf vacation, do yourself a favor and make your reservations sooner rather than later.

“Why? Because Golf in the Kingdom recently finished filming there, and when the movie comes out next year, every golfer not already familiar with Bandon Dunes is going to see what we’ve been saying for years: that the only thing keeping these three (soon to be four) courses from being authentic Irish/Scottish links is that they’re located in a little town on the southern coast of Oregon,” says the Golf Vacation Insider.

The Insider goes on, “As you may know, Michael Murphy’s 1972 book, Golf in the Kingdom has become a classic among golfers. The tale, which delves into the mystical and metaphysical, takes place on a golf course in Scotland, and the movie’s producers correctly determined that the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort would represent the ‘auld sod’ nicely.”

So if you are thinking of wrapping a golf vacation around your whitewater rafting vacation, you’d better be thinking now for 2010. With the economy on the upswing and signs that the market may be beginning to stabilize, finding space on the golf course and on a raft may be a bit more difficult in 2010.
